Overview
SimplerDeyes is designed to run locally on your own hardware and communicate directly with your Solarman logger on your local network. We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the licence system. We do not sell, share, or monetise your data in any way.
What data we collect
- Email address — collected at registration on simplerdeyes.com, used to associate your account with your logger and to send licence keys and support communications.
- Logger serial number — the serial number of your Solarman logger, used as the unique identifier for licence generation and validation.
That is the complete list. We do not collect your name, physical address, phone number, payment card details, IP address, usage statistics, or any data from your inverter or solar installation.
What data stays on your device
All inverter metrics, historical data, settings, and operational data collected by the SimplerDeyes software are stored locally on the device running the software. This data is never transmitted to SimplerDeyes or any third party. It does not leave your local network.
How we use your data
- Email address — to deliver your licence key, to respond to support requests, and to send renewal reminders. We do not send marketing email.
- Logger serial number — to generate and validate your licence key. The serial number is embedded in the licence key using a one-way cipher and is not stored in a recoverable form beyond the database record.
Licence validation
The SimplerDeyes software periodically contacts api.simplerdeyes.com to validate or retrieve your licence key. This request includes your logger serial number and email address as authentication headers. No inverter data, usage data, or personal information beyond these two values is transmitted.
Alert notifications
If you enable email alerts, the software sends a notification request to api.simplerdeyes.com when an alert condition is detected (grid failure, inverter fault, communication loss). This request contains your licence key as an authentication token and the alert type. No inverter metric values are transmitted.
Third-party services
- PayFast — payments are processed by PayFast (payfast.co.za), a South African payment gateway. SimplerDeyes does not receive or store any payment card information. PayFast's privacy policy applies to payment transactions.
- Google Play — the Android version of SimplerDeyes is distributed via the Google Play Store. Google's privacy policy governs the installation and update process.
- Google Analytics / Ads — simplerdeyes.com uses Google tag services to measure website traffic and ad performance. This is governed by Google's privacy policy. No personally identifiable information is shared with Google through this mechanism.
Data storage and security
Your email address and logger serial number are stored in a secured database hosted in South Africa. Access is restricted to the SimplerDeyes system and is not shared with any third party. Passwords are stored as salted hashes and are never stored or transmitted in plain text.
Data retention
Your account data is retained for as long as your account exists. If you wish to have your data removed, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete your account and associated records.
Your rights
You have the right to request access to the data we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate data, and to request deletion of your data. To exercise any of these rights, contact [email protected].
Children
SimplerDeyes is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of SimplerDeyes after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
